Carl and the Passions – “So Tough

The original album didn’t say Beach Boys on it. When it was released on CD they tacked it on so people would know who it was.

The original album was released as a 2fer with “Pet Sounds.” The two albums sounded nothing alike but since Warner Brothers got The Beach Boys and their back catalog, they were going to try to push “Pet Sounds” again.

I did the album cover using Microsoft Paint.

  1. I’m reading this book on the Beatles now and it’s fascinating to hear how much they were influenced by the Beach Boys. Apparently Pet Sounds was a response to Rubber Soul. When the Beatles heard Pet Sounds they were blown away and knew they would have to go a long way to top it. That’s when they made Sgt Pepper.

  2. According to Brian Wilson it was friendly competition. Brian had it tough cause he wrote the songs and produced the albums where the Beatles had three songwriters and George Martin.
If you read the history of The Beach Boys, a lot of the stuff the did were good ideas, but didn’t turn out right.
