Ruben and The Jets

(from the Ralph Rumpelton Collection Of Fine Art)

One of my favorite Zappa albums. When this was first released on CD, Zappa overdubbed a new bass and drum to it. So what you had was an album that was recorded in the 60’s with bass and drums from the cheesy 80’s. Zappa said he did it cause the original master tape was in such bad shape. I read an interview with one of the musicians who did the overdubbing (forgot his name) and he said Zappa did it because he felt like it. The tapes were in fine shape. And they were, because about five years ago the original “Ruben Ruben And The Jets” was re-released as “Greasy Love Songs.”
